Tropical Storm Gaemi weakened and entered Thailand yesterday, causing heavy rain in eastern Sa Kaeo, Trat, and Chantaburi provinces.
Rain from the storm has begun to fall in Bangkok and is expected to continue throughout the day.
Thanawat Jarupongsakul, head of the natural disaster studies unit at Chulalongkorn University’s faculty of science, said 90% of Bangkok will experience heavy rainfall today, the Bangkok Post reported.
Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said that people in the capital should remain vigilant and prepare for potential flooding, despite the downgrading of the storm.
Meanwhile, Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha affirmed that all army units are ready to help in the event of floods.
Flood-relief supplies, including 880,000 sandbags, have been prepared to deal with any inundations, said deputy army spokeswoman Col Sirijan Ngathong.
