Why build your rail line around your existing infrastructure when you can just go right through it?
Earlier this week, Corrections Department chief Suchart Wonganantachai said that several prisons along Ngam Wong Wan Road may have to be moved in order to make room for the Red Line electric rail system.
These moves would have to be approved by the Justice and Treasury departments, but they are apparently being considered as viable options that can be used to make way for the light rail.
At present, three prisons – Khlong Prem, Bangkok Remand Prison and Women’s Central Prison – are all located along that stretch of road. The Bangkok Post reports that no backup location has yet been named for the prisons.
And hey, if this move does go through, then residents can at least withdraw their complaints about Khlong Prem’s spicy cooking.
