President insists Assumption College teachers aren’t being fired

Executives from Assumption College in Bangkok are insisting that rumors of mass teacher layoffs at the institution are unfounded.

Earlier today, the Nation reported that Brother Sirichai Fonseka, president of St. Gabriel’s Foundation of Thailand, stated that the school would not be closed, sold or subjected to mass layoffs.

He said that Assumption College would merge its primary and secondary schools under a single license, but that in doing so it would retain its current staff.

Teachers at the school have taken to wearing black in protest of Assumption College’s policies, a maneuver that Sirichai described as inappropriate and uncalled for.
