Pongsapat likely to be picked as Pheu Thai’s nominee for governor

A Pheu Thai source confirmed that Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen would likely secure the party’s endorsement for the office of governor of Bangkok.

INN is reporting that the deputy police chief is qualified as a candidate because of his young mind and corruption-free history. The party’s only concern is his limited political experience.

The ruling Pheu Thai Party is expected to officially announce its nominee for the governor’s race on Jan. 15. If nominated, Pongsapat will run against several strong rivals, including incumbent governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra, who secured the Democrat Party’s support on Dec. 27.

The election will be held on Mar. 3. Originally, the election had been scheduled for Feb. 19, but it was pushed back as a result of Sukhumbhand’s early resignation.
