Poll: Bangkok residents dig Vegetarian Festival

Almost 70% of Bangkok residents will go vegetarian for at least some part of the 10-day Vegetarian Festival, a Bangkok Poll has found.

The survey of 1,243 Bangkokians was conducted last Friday through Sunday. Of the 69% that said they would participate in the fest, 31.7% said that would eat vegetarian for only some meals while 22.9 % said they would go totally vegetarian for the full 10 days. About 7% said that would eat vegetarian for three days.

Regarding why they were participating in the Vegetarian Festival, 40% said they wanted to make merit, 24.6% said they were doing it for their health, and 12.7% said because they did it every year, the Nation reported. 

Regarding what they considered the best symbol of the fest, about 70% of respondents said vegetarian food, 26.4% said the yellow flag, while 2.4% said the fire-walking ceremony, the Nation reported.
