A Bangkok policeman accidentally shot himself in the leg while trying to kick down the door of a Ratchada area drug suspect recently.
On May 18, police from Sutthisan Station assembled at Regent Tower on Intamara Soi 49 to investigate reports that Mr. Sahadsawad Watetaksakul, a 27-year-old man living in room 32/350, was selling drugs there.
Sahadsawad refused to open up his apartment, however, and as police were attempting to kick down the door officer Dechbordin Ariyakabud’s gun went off and shot him in the leg, the Daily News reported. He was taken to Paolo Hospital in Saphan Kwai.
After an hour and a half of negotiation, Sahadsawad finally opened his door and surrendered to the police, who found ecstasy, “K” or ketamine, ice, and a .38 handgun with seven bullets.
Investigating police found that the suspect sold drugs to tourists in the Ratchada area as well as vehicle parts, and had been arrested and put in jail by the Bangyikan Police Station last year.
Police arrested Sahadsawad and confiscated a black BMW car and a Honda CBR400 motorcycle without plates for further investigation.
Photos of the arrest are at the Daily News website.
