Police warn of Chinese New Year crooks

The Royal Thai Police have issued a warning for people to watch out for theft and extortion as well as fire dangers during Chinese New Year, which begins Monday Jan. 23.

Police spokesman Police Major General Piya Utayo said that “gangs of crooks”, including dragon dancers and donation collection groups, will likely be causing trouble during the festival, according to NNT. 

He also warned the public to be alert for fires from rituals involving incense and joss paper burning.

Extra police will be on duty for the festival, he said.

More than 500 police officer sill be on site in Bangkok’s Chinatown for the opening ceremony Jan. 23.
