Police track down Bangkok bag-snatcher with Apple Find My iPhone feature

Police apprehended a Bangkok bag-snatcher recently with the help of the Apple “Find My iPhone” GPS tracking feature.

Tha Reu police station superintendent Pol.Col. Gedchakad Ninpradab said that his investigation team tracked one 22-year-old Mr. Supakorn aka “Te Monpool” to a house in Soi Aadnarong, Khlong Toey District where they found four iPhones, three Samsung phones, one diamond ring, and one yellow Yamaha Fino. The goods had a total value of about THB100,000.

Te Moonpol had robbed peoples’ bags two times in the Saladaeng area and once in Thonglor, The Daily News reported. Police traced him to the house in Khlong Toey by using one of the victim’s “Find My iPhone” function, which allows someone who’s lost their iPhone to track the device through GPS, send it messages, and remotely lock or erase it.

The arrested suspect said that he was an enlisted soldier at the Thai Army base on Nanglinchee Road. He said that he and his friend snatched bags from people during their six months of vacation from the army. The other suspect, 26-year-old Mr. Narongrit aka “Por Feungpol”, was able to escape arrest.
