Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau officers raided an illegal casino in the capital’s Bang Sue district and arrested 199 gamblers on Dec. 20.
A special police unit of about 100 officers made the raid at 4AM and confiscated a number of gambling machines and tools, TANN reported.
The casino was located on Techawanich Road in the Tao Poon area of Bang Sue.
Locals in the area allegedly refused to cooperate with police in anti-gambling operations, so it was difficult for police to enter the area.
Of the gamblers arrested, 85 were male and 114 were female.
Police confiscated money and gambling tools as evidence for the case, such as cards, bakara tables, score sheets, price lists, bill counters, and many slot machines.
In a Trojan Horse-like maneuver, roughly 40 police infiltrated the casino posed as gamblers and then opened a metal gate that allowed the rest of the officers to enter.
