Police blocked roads in the Asoke, Nana, and Petchaburi areas of Bangkok to arrest 78 teenage motorcycle gang members in the early hours of May 13.
Makkasan Station police officers, traffic police, and Por Tek Tung came up with the plan to block streets and arrest the youths after receiving many complaints of the kids racing motorcycles in the area on Friday and Saturday nights.
About 100 officers sealed off the streets at Nana intersection, Petchaburi sois 36 and 39, and Asoke intersection to make the arrests at 3:30am, Daily News reported.
Many of the gang members abandoned their bikes and ran away from the police barricades when they saw them, but police were able to arrest 48 and impound 86 motorcycles. The youths were taken to Makkasan police station to be processed and drug tested. They were then sent to Juvenile Court, many to be charged with illegal street racing and drug use.
Later that night at 4:00am, police from Payathai polce station sealed off Pratunam intersection to the Makkasan railway intersection and arrested 30 more youths, confiscating 50 bikes.
