Police honcho predicts post-flood crime wave in Bangkok

National Police Chief Priewpan Damapong has predicted an increase in crime in Bangkok with the receding of floodwaters and release of nearly 30,000 pardoned prisoners.

Pol Gen Priewpan said yesterday Dec. 7 that he has ordered Pol Lt-Gen Suthin Khiewrat, commissioner of the Border Patrol Police, to supply roughly 500 officers to help metropolitan police protect frequent crime targets like gold shops, convenience stores, and banks. More police will be making rounds on foot and on motorcycle patrols, Priewpan said according to the Bangkok Post.

Priewpan added that Pol Gen Panupong Singhara na Ayutthaya, a deputy police chief, and Pol Lt-Gen Charamporn Suramanee, an assistant police chief, will work together closely with Pol Lt-Gen Vinai Thongsong, the Metropolitan Police chief.
