Bangkok law enforcement officials took a number of underage girls and two “mamasans” into custody earlier this week, following a tip that the group had been running a child prostitution ring.
City police chief Pol Lt Gen Kamronwit Thupkrachang said that the sting took place in the Thung Kru district.
Once they had been lured out into the open, both the “mamasans” were arrested. Police also took into custody nine girls, aged 14 to 16, who had been serving as prostitutes.
The Bangkok Post reports that all the girls were Thai nationals and that they typically received THB1,500 for their services, of which THB500 went to their handlers.
