Police arrest 106 dek wan near Don Muang Airport

Bangkok police arrested 106 dek wan motorbike riders on Viphavadee-Rangsit Road at the U-turn in front of the warehouse entrance to Don Muang Airport on June 3.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sanong Saengmanee mobilized more than 30 officers to set up a blockade and arrest the youths, Pattaya Daily News reported.

64 of those arrested were youths ( 51 males and 13 females), while 42 were adults (34 males and eight females) – 78 motorbikes were confiscated.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sanong said that they had been fielding complaints of teenagers racing bikes in the area. He said that the suspects tried to escape in many directions during the arrest – some tried to ride up the tollway, some ditched their bikes and ran away, and some jumped into a canal. The age of the riders ranged from 14-28.

The adults were charged with reckless driving and will be prosecuted. Police notified the parents of the juveniles and will check to see if any of their motorbikes were stolen.
