Science and Technology Minister Plodprasop Suraswadi said again yesterday that Bangkok and other key economic zones of Thailand will definitely not flood this year.
He made the statement at a meeting of the Water Resources Management and Flood Control Committee chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
Plodprasob said that he believes there is only a 1% chance of floods as large as last year happening in Thailand this year and “reaffirmed that Bangkok and its vicinity will not be submerged in floodwaters this year,” NNT reported.
Plodprasob has affirmed that Bangkok won’t flood at least twice already this year. But he was widely criticized over his handling of last year’s flooding crisis, especially over an incident when he called an imminent flood alert for Bangkok that turned out to be wrong.
The minister is also a frontrunner for the Pheu Thai Party’s candidate for the Bangkok governor elections in 2013, depending on his handling of potential flooding this year.
