Pattaya police arrest British duo for failed ATM robberies

Police have arrested two British men in Pattaya who got the bright idea of trying to rob ATMs by ripping them out of walls with a two rope.

Alexander Milbourn, 25, and Shaun Edward Tracy, 34, were apprehended in a house in Soi Thep Prasit in south Pattaya, the Bangkok Post reported. A third suspected, only identified as “Richie”, remains at large.

The gang of three allegedly targeted ATMs in Chonburi’s Siracha district on three different dates last month and tried to yank them out of walls with a pick-up truck and a “rented saloon car.” They failed to score any cash because they were unable to open the ATMs after pulling them out of the wall.

The first attempt took place at Bangkok Bank’s Bo Win branch, while the second two took place at Bank of Ayudhya’s branches at Laem Chabang and Pak Ruam.

Police tracked down the two men after getting a tip from a construction material shop owner in Siracha, who said he had sold heavy tow ropes to them. They then identified the suspects from CCTV footage from cameras near the shop.

The two suspects reportedly came to Thailand originally as tourists but had stayed in Pattaya for over 10 years and were both fluent in Thai.
