Parliamentary officials refuse sick photographer use of ambulance

Sakol Sandhiratne, a news photographer for the Nation, suffered a stroke yesterday while covering Parliament, but was refused ambulance service by the Parliament House medical staff.

Though Sakol was eventually brought to Klang Hospital by one of the Hospital’s own ambulances, parliamentary officials refused him use of the ambulance that the government keeps on hand for dealing with medical emergencies within Parliament’s chambers.

It’s the Nation itself that’s reporting on this incident, so objectivity will have to be taken as an article of faith, but either way, this treatment seems harsh.
