A Pakistani national suspected of killing a Thai woman in Chiang Mai last week is now in the custody of police after being nabbed at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The suspect, 41-year-old Syed Muhammadali, was caught by immigration police at 7 am on Thursday at a Sri Lanka Airlines check in counter.
Authorities searched his belongings and found several items belonging to the slain victim, Duangduen Harris.
When questioned about the murder, the suspect admitted to knowing Duangduen and said that they argued on the night she was killed. He refused to give any more information and was turned over the the Chiang Mai police.
Duangduen Harris, 41, who owned the Midnight Bar in Chiang Mai, was found dead at the Lai Thai guesthouse in tambon Chang Klan in Muang district on Oct 18. She was found naked and with multiple stab wounds to the neck, chest and shoulders.
Security footage showed her and the suspect walking towards her room at around 2 am on October 17. He was seen leaving the room six hours later, and the victim’s lifeless body was discovered the next day.
Police intelligence showed that Syed boarded a bus to Bangkok on Oct 17 then rode another bus going to Hat Yai. They received a tip that the suspect had booked a morning flight with Sri Lanka airlines, the Bangkok Post reported.
