Nok Air plans two new flights into Myanmar

Nok Air has announced plans to christen two new air routes from Thailand to Myanmar. Both of the flights will depart from Tak’s Mae Sot district, one traveling to Mawlamyine, the other to Yangon.

The Mae Sot district, on Thailand’s Western border, has become increasingly important as Thailand and Myanmar near integration into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Already, Thai and Myanma officials have agreed to permanently open the Mae Sot border checkpoint to cross-border trade and tourism. The location is expected to become even more of a key waypoint for Burmese goods after the formation of the AEC in 2015.

The Bangkok Post reports that on Sunday, 20 Nok Air executives flew from Mae Sot into Mawlamyine in order to christen the route.
