The days of a THB20 flat fare for the Airport Rail Link are numbered, according to SRT Electric Train Company, which runs the transit line.
The Bangkok Post is reporting that SRT originally instituted the THB20 flat fare as part of a promotion, but that deal failed to attract enough customers to warrant the extension that the Company originally had in mind.
Whereas the plan had been meant to attract 7,000 riders a day, it was in fact drawing only 5,000 to 5,500, forcing SRT to discontinue the program when it expired on Dec. 31. During its October-to-January run, discount fares cost the Rail Line a total of THB2 million per month.
Now, a ride to the airport will cost you between THB15 and 45, depending on how far you plan on traveling.
Hey, at least they made it through the holidays.
