A large-scale project is underway to provide free Wi-Fi access throughout Thailand by the year 2018.
According to the Bangkok Post, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has provided THB950 million to the ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in order to kickstart the initiative.
The ICT has set a goal of opening 40,000 Wi-Fi hotspots throughout Thailand by the end of this year, with a proposed total of 250,000 by 2018.
