Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) Governor Yongsit Rojsrikul is hopeful that the proposed lowering of service fees by the Bangkok Metro Public Company Limited (BMCL) will pave the way for the much-needed service expansion.
According to Yongsit, negotiations with the BMCL, operators of the underground rail system, to lower passenger fees to a flat rate of THB20 are expected to conclude by September this year.
He added that once the lower rates will considerably boost the number of passengers and will prompt BMCL to order at least 19 more rail cars and expand its service and system support.
The MRTA governor said that this expansion and improvement in service will all be in place by 2013. At the same time, Yongsit said that the construction of a Purple Line “Bang Yai-Bang Sue” electric rail system will most likely be ready for review by the Cabinet by September, as soon as talks with the BMCL come to a close.
