Motorbike thief arrested, puts friend behind bar

A 27-year-old man was arrested today for stealing a number of motorcycles. His friend, whom he lured to help him pawn the stolen vehicles, was also charged with purchasing the loot.

Bang Khun Thian police nabbed Warut “Nick” Chormakhok at a house in Phasi Charoen. They discovered four motorcycles, three motorcycle frames and a set of tools he employed during the robberies.

Nick admitted to stealing the vehicles from areas under the jurisdiction of Petchkasem, Phasi Charoen and Nongkhaem police stations.

He was released from prison in Dec. 2012 after serving a sentence for six drug charges and one robbery charge. The thief stated that he learned how to steal motorcycles from his inmates and that he had committed over 20 crimes in the past month. He spent the money he received from motorcycle sales on drugs.

Following Nick’s arrest, police also charged his friend, Korakot “Golf” Muangphasee, who pawned two of Nick’s motorcycles for THB5,000. In order to convince Golf to conduct these crimes, police said that Nick tricked him into believing that his (Nick’s) mother had breast cancer and that his family was facing serious financial trouble.

Dailynews reported that the pair was charged with robbery and purchasing loot.
