It’s official: claims for Thailand’s “first-car” tax rebate have exceeded one million.
The Bangkok Post reports that as of last Friday, 1,010,854 car owners had applied for the sizable tax credit offered to Thailand’s first-time car buyers.
More than one-half million of those cars were sedans, with pickups charting upwards of 400,000 sales in order to claim the second-place trophy.
The government’s price tag for this automotive shopping spree? Oh, not that much, you know, only THB74 billion.
In order to accomodate this new influx of vehicles the city has launched an extensive, highway expansion program aimed at reducing commute times and…no, just kidding. That definitely did not happen.
