According to a study conducted by the Ministry of Public Health, Thai teenagers are 9-times more likely to catch HIV than average citizens.
This announcement comes as part of a Ministry campaign aimed at promoting condom usage, with the goal of eradicating AIDS within the kingdom. Doctor Phonthep Siriwanarangsan, Department of Disease Control Director-General, announced the results of the study, which found that as many as 89% of Thai teenagers fail to use condoms during sex. This reckless behavior puts them at a much higher risk for acquiring HIV.
The Ministry reports that in 2012, Thailand reported 10,000 new cases of HIV. Overall, more than one million Thai nationals suffer from the disease.
