Bangkok’s Min Buri district has been declared a disaster zone from flooding, NNT has reported.
Government officials are distributing food and medicine to affected people and wooden bridges have been constructed to help movement around the area. 4,636 houses in 35 communities and 1,400 rai of agricultural land have reportedly been inundated.
Unfortunately, heavy rain in Bangkok has been forecast by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for today Oct. 16 and tomorrow. Heavy downpours around Bangkok last night from around 7pm to 9pm caused minor flooding in the Silom, Dusit, Wong Wian Yai, Klongsan, Nanglinchee, and Srinakarin areas.
Northern Bangkok and Pathum Thani are in serious danger of flooding today by runoff from Ayutthaya, according to the Nation. The area is home to the oldest and one of the largest industrial estates in Thailand, Nava Nakorn, which is comprised of 227 factories employing 180,000 workers. Nava Nakorn has a combined value of over THB100 billion.
To protect the area, the Flood Relief Operations Command is advocating digging Klong Rapipat to help drain 200 million cubic meters of floodwater.
