The Defense Ministry announced yesterday Oct. 27 that it will send an additional 50,000 soldiers, 1,000 vehicles, and 1,000 boats to fend off floods from Bangkok.
The First Army Area will defend Bangkok, the Navy will defend Siriraj Hospital and Thawee Watthana district, and the Air Force will defend the Don Mueang airport compound and FROC HQ, according to the Nation.
There are already roughly 10,000 troops deployed around the country, ministry spokesman Colonel Thanathip Sawangsaeng said. The military council drafted the plans yesterday and would most likely be approved by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra before implementation.
