A mentally ill man committed suicide by jumping of the Bang Na BTS Station platform in Bangkok yesterday April 24.
Police who arrived on the scene found the body of 43-year-old Ponchai Meesabwattana, wearing a white t-shirt and black shorts, opposite the Thai Metrological Department and Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Komchadluek reported. They collected his black Nike shoes with a red stripe not far from his body and a backpack with THB1,260 cash and a patient card from Manarom Hospital as evidence.
A BTS security guard told police that Ponchai was seen sitting at a bus station crying while speaking on the phone earlier before he decided to end his life by jumping off the station platform.
Police were later informed by a relative of the deceased that he had been mentally ill for nine years, and treated first at Somdejchaopraya and then Manarom Hospital on Sukhumvit 70/3.
The information about him crying was confirmed by government sweet sweeper Mrs. Seangurai, who told reporters she saw him crying in front of Light Inn.
Police have requested to review CCTV cameras from the area.
