A runaway garbage truck with a drunk driver behind the wheel slammed into roadside trees, flipped, and toppled six power poles at around 3am yesterday morning March 29 on Bangkok’s Pattanakarn Road.
Photos of the upside down truck entangled in power lines quickly spread around the internet.
Thankfully no one was hurt, including the driver Boonleu Montasuk. The wreck did cause a power outage in the area though, and closed off part of the road for hours as people cleaned up debris. The careening truck also ripped awnings and signs off of shops on the road.
Boonleu said that a car cut him off, causing him to swerve to avoid crashing into it.
“I am not drunk or anything,” he said, according to the Nation.
But when he took a breathalyser test at Prawet Police Station he had 219mg of alcohol per 100mg of blood, well over the legal max of 50mg.
Boonleu was charged with drunk driving and property damage.
