Man takes wife hostage at knifepoint in Rama III area

A drug-addled man took his wife hostage at knifepoint in the middle of a road in the Rama III area earlier today but was successfully tasered and arrested by the police.

The man, 27-year-old Sakdawut Ngarm-siri, was rushed away to Wat Prayakrai Police Station from an angry mob at the scene.

Sakdawut was arrested last night for public intoxication and bailed out by his wife, TANN reported. After returning to their apartment he attacked his wife, believing that she had told police to arrest him. His wife’s sister allegedly struck Sakdawut with a club which enraged him even more.

At 3AM, Sakdawut took his wife hostage by dragging her out to the street at knifepoint and demanding a taxi to the Sukhumvit area.

Authorities shut down the road to negotiate with him, but after four hours without a break through they fired a taser gun at his back, successfully freeing his wife, and detained him.

Sakdawut, a factory worker, is under arrest at Wat Prayakrai Police Station, while his wife was taken to the hospital to be checked for injury.
