Man injures pedestrian while leaping to his death

Komsan Jupamattang, 36, leapt to his death this Thursday from the third story of a shopping mall in Bangkok’s Bang Kae district.

In addition to doing himself mortal injury (the Bangkok Post helpfully points out that his head “was turned around 180 degrees”), Komsan also caused some serious problems for Issariyaporn Pongkaew—a 28-year-old shopper who had the misfortune to find herself in the way of Komsan’s fall while she shopped for purses.

Issariyaporn was knocked unconscious when Komsan’s body hit her, and, after being rushed to Kasemrad Hospital, it was discovered that she had suffered a broken back.

Though police remain mum about Issariyaporn’s chances for recovery, they have plenty of speculation to offer about the causes for Komsan’s suicide attempt.

Apparently the unfortunate Bangkokian had five packets of antidepressant medication in his clothing at the time of his death, leading police to speculate that (drumroll…) he suffered from depression.

His body is currently undergoing postmortem examination at Siriraj Hospital.
