Man arrested for shopping with stolen credit cards

Over the weekend, police arrested Yongyuth Rakchartthai, 37, for purchasing items at Bangkok-area shopping malls using a variety of stolen credit cards.

Yongyuth had five credit cards in all, with which he had been going around Bangkok purchasing high-end items, supposedly at the behest of a man named Pithawat Akrathitiveerakul.

Pithawat, who evaded arrest, had apparently been using Yongyuth to buy consumer goods with the stolen cards. Police believe that neither Yonguth nor Pithawat actually stole the cards, but that they instead bought them from criminal gangs.

The Bangkok Post reports that Yongyuth’s brother has been arrested as well for trying to bribe police in order to secure Yongyuth’s release.
