Man arrested for selling backhoes for scrap metal

Earlier today, police arrested a 53-year-old man for stealing backhoes in order to sell them for scrap metal.

Police charged Suta Chopkla with illegally possessing a Kubota Backhoe, worth over THB1 million. Suta had hired a ten-wheeled truck driver to move the vehicle along Sukhumvit 71 road. He had intended to sell the construction implement as scrap metal for THB10 per kilogram.

Suta, an Isaan food vendor, admitted to his offense and added that this was not his first dalliance with backhoe theft. He told police that he would study construction sites throughout Bangkok while riding the bus, then hire a truck driver to carry the backhoes he found back to his property.

According to FM91, Suta will face charges of robbery.
