A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly attacking motorcyclists by kicking them off their bikes following footage of the incident posted online.
Madree Hemman-ngarn allegedly confessed to kicking motorcycles driving through the area, enraged at the speeding, noisy bikes, the Bangkok Post reported.
The posting of the clip on Monday led to speculation that the man was a plain-clothed police officer trying to stop motorcyclists by kicking them off their bikes on Rama III soi 9.
At the time of the incident on Monday night, police officers were stopping motorcycles to search for drugs and fine those not wearing helmets.
A man in casual clothes can be seen in the clip trying to stop two motorcycles by kicking at them, with the first getting away. The second, however, was not so lucky.
Two people on the second bike fell off and one of them, a woman, is said to have injured her leg.
Police said they have pressed assault charges against Mr. Madree, and that he was a worker living in Charoen Krung – not a police officer as many Internet commenters suggested.
