According to Nuannoi Trirat, the director of the Center for Gambling Studies, the number of Thais playing the lottery has doubled within the past decade.
At present, 72 million tickets are printed for each round of the lottery, as opposed to the 36 million per round that were printed a decade ago.
In an interview with the Nation, Nuannoi advised the Social Development and Human Security Ministry to begin a fresh crackdown on gambling in order to combat the lottery’s popularity.
