Light rail from Bang Yai to Bang Kapi ready for construction

According to representatives from the State Railway of Thailand Electrified Train Company (SRTET), a light rail line from Bang Yai to Bang Kapi is not only a possibility, but also a project that the Company desperately wants to undertake.

In a statement published by the National News Bureau of Thailand, SRTET Chairman Chamroon Tangpaisarnkit stated that his company’s experience with the Airport Rail Link has more than prepared it to install and operate the proposed Bang Yai-to-Bang Kapi line.

Though a light rail line will have a lower passenger capacity than a heavy rail line, Chamroon said that cost savings would offset this disadvantage.

According to Chamroon, the Office of Transportation and Traffic Policy and Planning is already conducting a feasibility study for the proposed rail extension.
