No less of a Hollywood heavy hitter than Leonardo DiCaprio has joined the World Wildlife Fund campaign to ban the ivory trade in Thailand.
Leo appears in the latest promotional material from the conservation group with the statement, “I am joining WWF and others calling on Thailand’s government to show leadership on elephant conservation by shutting down its ivory market.”
As we reported earlier, Thailand has a strange grey area policy in relation to the ivory trade.
According to WWF, “Exploiting a legal loophole that permits the sale of ivory from Thailand’s domestic elephants, criminals can pass off illegally obtained African ivory as being from domestic sources and get away with selling it on the legal open market. This must stop.”
