Pattaya residents captured a large monitor lizard that was found wandering along Sukhumvit Road yesterday afternoon.
Concerned residents had called rescue services saying that the 1.3-meter and 30kg lizard might harm their children, but by the time authorities arrived the reptile had already been captured.
A local man named Khun Pongsak who was the first to spot the beast alerted children on the street to take cover inside, and then did the same himself.
Some speculated that the extreme heat had driven the monitor lizard out in search of water.
Rescuers released the lizard in an overgrown area close to a lake, Pattaya One reported.
