Kuwaiti woman stopped at Suvarnabhumi with suitcase full of pythons and monkeys

Officials seized 11 pythons, a baby monkey, and other live creatures in the suitcase of a Kuwaiti woman trying to board a flight at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok last week.

Altogether 24 live animals were confiscated from the woman’s oversized suitcase, said Narongrit Sookprakarn, an official of the Thai Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

The woman promptly ran away when asked to open her suitcase but police were able to identify her by her luggage tag and issued a warrant for her arrest, AFP reported. Other animals in her bag included 12 tarsiers, a small tree-dwelling primate. The baby monkey had been put in a box with breathing holes.

Bangkok is increasingly being recognized as a hub of international wildlife smuggling. In February police raided a house in the Thai capital that was being used for the slaughter of tigers and other exotic wildlife.
