Kidnappers drown Kasetsart student after mother fails to pay ransom

Four kidnappers allegedly drowned a Kasetsart Univeristy freshman after his mother failed to pay a THB2 million ransom, the Nation has reported.

The mother of student Piyaphan Thitiak-sornsillapa supposedly thought the ransom demand was a prank.

The kidnappers – Aphiraphat Sukha-arkhod, Phanuphong Siraphanphanich, Paphawin Maiprathum and Natthaphol In-ngern – were arrested Tuesday Jan. 3 and confessed to kidnapping and drowning Piyaphan.

Bangkok’s Phra Khanong Court placed the four men into custody yesterday and approved a police recommendation against their release, based on the hideousness of their crime and the fact that they were flight risks.

Police are still interviewing seven witness and awaiting forensic results from the crime scene.
