Tomorrow, Kasetsart University will be hosting a public forum to discuss the construction of the six-lane, “Stage 3 N1” expressway, which has drawn heated criticism from citizens living in the project’s path.
On the docket for the discussion is (unsurprisingly) a rundown of the ways in which Stage 3 N1 will affect the communities through which it is slated to pass.
This issue lies especially close to Kasetsart’s heart, as part of the University itself will have to be sacrificed in order to allow for the expressway’s completion.
The Nation reports that Chavalit Wattanakul, the Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat)’s deputy governor for construction and maintenance, is insisting that no parts of the plan have been finalized as of yet, and that an environmental impact assessment will have to be completed before construction of Stage 3 N1 moves ahead.
A part of the Laem Chabang Port-Bangkok-Dawei deep-sea port highway system, Stage 3 N1 is expected to be 19.2 kilometers long and to run past Don Mueang Airport in northeastern Bangkok.
Those interested in attending the forum are invited to head over to Kasetsart University’s Chakkapan Pensiri Building tomorrow morning between 8:30am and noon.
