Yesterday, Kobkiat Kasivivat, Deputy Director General of the Department of Corrections, stated that 75-year-old Somchai “Kamnan Poh” Khumploem remained in critical condition after being knocked unconscious from a fall in the bathroom of his VIP room in a Chonburi hospital.
Somchai was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 4 following a request from Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunploem, Somchai’s son, citing that Somchai was suffering from exhaustion and high blood pressure. The “Godfather of Chonburi” spent only 10 minutes in prison before the transfer. Somchai had lived for several years on the run and was eventually arrested on Jan. 30 for conspiring to murder Prayoon Sitthichoke.
Amnart Prachyaphan, Director of Chonburi Central Prison, said that Somchai would remain in the hospital until he fully recovered before being transferred back to jail to serve his 30-year-and-four-month prison sentence, Dailynews reported.
