Jeremy Renner speaks out about Phuket bar brawl

Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner made comments to the Hollywood Reporter recently about “what really went down during the Thailand knife fight,” where the scion of Bangkok’s powerful Issara family, Pla-Wan Issara, was brutally assaulted and nearly killed in Phuket.

Pla-Wan, who owns and manages the luxury Sri Panwa Resort in Phuket, had words with staff at the Canala Nightclub in Phuket Town before the assault occurred, according to Renner.

“It was a silly, tragic accident that happened to this guy,” Renner told the Reporter, referring to Pla-Wan. The actor said that Pla Wan made a comment and “got attacked in a bar fight at 4 in the morning. He was saying stuff, and 20 people jumped on him. I was in flip-flops. I don’t do bar fights. Did he deserve to get stabbed and almost murdered by 20 people? Fuck no.”

Pla-Wan sustained stab wounds to the abdomen, bruises over his entire body, and slash wounds to the neck from a makeshift axe in the attack, but was released from the hospital on Jan. 18. Six assailants were arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Renner’s reps initially denied that he was involved in the incident.

Canala Nightclub was a latenight drinking and dancing spot in Phuket Town, popular with locals and expats. It has been closed since the incident.
