The Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) has ranked Thailand as the eight out of 158 countries worldwide in terms of its susceptibility to terrorism.
As reported in Travel Daily News, the IEP’s report ranked the countries under investigation according to the number of fatalities from terrorism and the number of terrorist attacks that had occurred in each during the 2011 calendar year. The ongoing violence in Thailand’s southern border provinces earned it a spot in the top 10 most susceptible countries to terrorism, the highest ranking of any southeast Asian nation.
The Philippines was the only other southeast Asian country that made the top 10, securing the 10th spot overall.
According to the IEP, the countries most heavily beset by terrorism in 2011 were Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
