Tourism Police yesterday announced the arrest of three unlicensed guides near one of Bangkok’s most notable tourist destinations—the Grand Palace on Maharat Road.
Police said they charged 40-year-old Komsanthi Thipsiri and 32-year-old Chatmongkol Eawkiew at Tha Chang Pier while the pair were trying to trick tourists into buying river tour packages. Komsanthi and Chatmongkol failed to produce their licenses when questioned by police.
Nearby, police also arrested Wan Prajuansuk, a 52-year-old Surin local, for unlawful operation. Wan was stopped while pulling tourists’ arms and leading them toward a tuk-tuk.
Police told Dailynews that the arrests were performed following multiple reports of unlicensed tour guides operating around the area. Officials said that they would continue the crackdown in an effort to preserve the country’s reputation.
The cases will be handed over to the Chanasongkram Police Station for prosecution.
