Customs officials at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport seized THB18 million worth of smuggled rhino horn from a passenger’s luggage yesterday.
Officer Khanit Isdul said that they searched the bags of 56-year-old Phan Quangloc, a Vietnamese national, on a tip-off and found four rhino horns.
Phan, who was arriving in Bangkok on a flight from Ethiopia, will face jail in Thailand if he is convicted of smuggling, the AP reported.
Asia is the main market for African rhino horns, which are believed to cure diseases, and Bangkok is one of the biggest international hubs of illegal wildlife smuggling.
