Housing transfer draws massive protests

The Bangkok Post is reporting that a proposed housing transfer scheme has drawn more than 800 protestors, who rallied yesterday outside of Government House to voice their opposition to the plan.

The proposed plan would bring the Baan Mankong (Secure Housing) program under the auspices of the National Housing Institute. Currently, the Community Development Organization Institute handles the program.

Protestors, who waved signs and blocked traffic along Phitsanulok Road, expressed concerns that the transfer would bring the low-income housing project out from under their immediate control.
