Honest mother and daughter criticized by Bangkok Bank official for returning THB2 million

A mother and daughter in Nakhon Nayok Province who returned THB2 million that was wrongly credited to their Bangkok Bank account were ridiculed for being “foolish” by an official from the bank.

The official also said that they damaged the credibility of the bank. Wait a second – wasn’t it the bank that made the error?

Regardless, the honest women Thanaporn Chamnipong and her daughter Yuvadee Chamnipong however said they were happy to do a good deed and that it would have been wrong to keep money that wasn’t theirs, even though they are in debt. They were also criticized by their neighbors for not accepting the false gains, the Bangkok Post reported.

The story does have a bit of a happy ending though: Suthipong Chulacharoen, inspector general of the Interior Ministry and former Nakhon Nayok governor, rewarded the mother and daughter with THB20,000 in recognition of their honesty. He said that the family could use the money to pay off their THB10,000 debt and urged society to follow their example.
