Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the entire country to prepare for unseasonal heavy rain and wind over the next few days.
A torrential rainstorm in Bangkok last night caused power outages and brief flooding around the city, including on Sukhumvit Road.
The downpour provoked reactions in the local Twitter scene.
“Power out 3 times, dry season outdoor furniture wet. First time in 23 yrs in BKK I remember it ever raining in Jan.” said @qandrew.
“Thunder rattled the building and rain roared like a river!” said @phi_g.
“Thought I woke up in a club with strobing lights…” said @ExpatStudent.
The Meteorological Department said that a high pressure cell over northern parts of Thailand will bring thunderstorms to the North, Northeast, East, and Central Plains, as well as lowering the temperature by 2-4 degrees Celsius.
In the South, the current northeastern monsoon is expected to intensify, generating more heavy rain and strong wind.
