Health officials put Thailand on high alert for bird flu

Following the deaths of eight Cambodian citizens this year from bird flu, health officials in Thailand are putting the country on high alert for instances of the disease.

Though doctors throughout Thailand are going to step up their screenings for the virus, health officials have warned those in Sa Kaeo province to maintain special vigilance, as many Cambodians cross into Thailand via that area.

The Bangkok Post reports that the last known case of bird flu in Thailand occurred in 2006.
