‘Glorious as if created by angels’: Bangkok’s new motto revealed

“Bangkok, glorious as if created by angels, the administration centre, beautiful temples, glittering palaces, the capital of Thailand.”

That’s a tongue-twisting translation of our fair city’s new motto, which was unveiled by Bangkok Governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra yesterday.

No official English translation was made available.

The motto was chosen from submissions for the Bangkok Motto Contest Project, which called for entries under 30 syllables that best described the grandeur of Thailand’s capital.

Sukhumbhand has ordered city workers to post 800 signs of the new motto in the city’s 50 districts, the Nation reported.

The motto will be used to promote tourism on the occasion of the city’s 230th anniversary and it being named the “best city in the world” for three consecutive years by Travel & Leisure magazine.

If you catch sight of one of the new signs, post it tour Facebook wall or email it to us at info@coconutsbangkok.com!
